The collision transpired amidst Nairobi National Park in the capital city of Kenya, resulting in the demise of the smaller aircraft.
Police report that two individuals were slain in a mid-air collision in Kenya that involved a passenger plane and a training aircraft.
Above Nairobi National Park in the capital, the two aircraft collided, resulting in the smaller aircraft’s catastrophic descent.
The larger aircraft, a Safarilink Aviation-operated Dash 8, carried 44 passengers, including five crew members.
The aircraft was en route to the coastal tourist resort town of Diani when, shortly after takeoff from Wilson Airport, the crew noticed a deafening bang and decided to return, according to the airline.
“I can confirm that a trainer and a student [on the training aircraft] perished in the incident,” explained Adamson Bungei, commander of the Nairobi county police, to Reuters.
The Safarilink passenger aircraft and the aircraft belonging to a flight school collided at 10.05 am (7:05 am GMT), according to a statement from Kenya’s Civil Aviation Authority.
A formal inquiry has been initiated.
