A Peaceful Demonstration

Hundreds of individuals took part in a peaceful demonstration near the United States Capitol.

Advocating for Cessation of Hostilities

Protesters gathered in Washington, DC, to urge the administration of President Joe Biden and Congress to advocate for a cessation of hostilities in the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Demonstrations Inside and Outside

Near the Capitol, around 200 protesters, the majority of whom were members of Jewish Voice for Peace, occupied a section of the Cannon House Office Building while chanting, “The world is watching.”

Outside, roughly 500 additional demonstrators blocked Independence Avenue.

Some of the protesters wore black T-shirts with inscriptions such as “Jews now say ceasefire” and “not in our name.”

Police at the United States Capitol reportedly arrested demonstrators who refused to leave the area.

Explosions and Accusations

This comes in the wake of accusations and recriminations from Israel and Hamas regarding an explosion at a Gaza hospital, which has incited protests around the globe.

Hamas officials claim that the Tuesday detonation at the al Ahli hospital claimed the lives of over 500 individuals.

On the other hand, Israel asserts that the explosion originated from a missile fired by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a Gaza-based Islamist militant organization that is smaller than Hamas but adheres to a similar ideology.

According to Israel, 1,400 of its citizens were killed on October 7 during the surprise attack by Hamas militants.

Since then, at least 3,478 Palestinians have been killed, and 12,000 have been injured in Israel’s retaliatory strikes, according to the Gaza health ministry.
