Two individuals were killed when a helicopter crashed into a Florida apartment complex.
Monday just before 9 a.m. local time, the fire rescue helicopter crashed near the Pompano Beach Airpark, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
There were three persons aboard the helicopter when it crashed.
The 50-year-old captain of the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Terryson Jackson, perished in the accident, according to officials.
A second fatality occurred on the ground, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
A long plume of smoke is trailed by flames emanating from the helicopter’s midsection, according to video footage posted online.
The helicopter then appears to split in two before spiraling and crashing to the earth.
Two crew members on the helicopter and two civilians on the ground were transported to the hospital and are believed to be in stable condition, according to officials.
According to authorities, the fire rescue helicopter was en route to an incident in North Lauderdale.
Pompano Beach is roughly forty miles north of Miami.
