Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has claimed there are “big threats” against his life, following a US intelligence briefing on alleged Iranian plots to assassinate him.
On Wednesday, the former president stated on his Truth Social platform that “the entire US military is watching and waiting,” following attempts by Iran that “didn’t work out, but they will try again.” Trump added, “I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before.
According to Trump’s campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, Trump was briefed by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) about “real and specific threats from Iran” aimed at assassinating him in an attempt to destabilize the US.
Cheung also stated that intelligence officials have observed an increase in these coordinated attacks over the past few months, and law enforcement agencies are ensuring Trump’s safety, while also working to keep the upcoming November 5 presidential election free from external interference.
Iran has previously denied involvement in any attempts to interfere in US affairs. A request for comment from Iran’s UN mission in New York was not answered, according to Reuters.
While an ODNI spokesperson confirmed the briefing, they declined to provide further details. It remains unclear whether these assassination threats are new or part of previously reported concerns.
In September, Trump accused Iran of hacking into his campaign, with his team alleging the Iranian government was distributing sensitive documents, though no evidence was provided. This accusation came after Microsoft released a report on foreign interference attempts in the US election campaign.
July Shooting Incident
Iran previously rejected claims that it was involved in an assassination attempt on Trump two months ago. On July 13, a gunman opened fire at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania, killing one person and injuring the former president.

Following the shooting, US media reported that authorities had intelligence about an Iranian plot targeting Trump, which led to increased security measures. Iran dismissed these allegations as “malicious.”
Earlier this month, a Pakistani man with suspected ties to Iran pleaded not guilty to charges related to an alleged plot to assassinate Trump. The plot was reportedly in retaliation for the 2020 US killing of Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani, which Trump ordered during his presidency.
While Trump was named as a target, it was unclear if the scheme was intended as a serious plan to kill the former president, according to a source cited by Reuters.
Separately, federal authorities are investigating an attempted assassination on Trump at his Florida golf course in mid-September, though no links to Iran have been established.
