- Biden mistakenly called Zelenskyy “President Putin”
- He mixed up Kamala Harris and Trump
- Democrats urge Biden to step down
The US president referred to the Ukrainian leader as “President Putin” and confused Kamala Harris and Donald Trump in a pair of gaffes that will only fuel doubts about his ability.
Joe Biden has insisted on running for re-election despite two significant gaffes at the NATO summit and an increasing number of Democrats calling on him to step down.
His performances at the Washington event were viewed as make-or-break for the 81-year-old, who had a dismal debate performance against competitor Donald Trump last month.
However, after the three-day conference, he incorrectly referred to Volodymyr Zelenskyy as “President Putin”.
“Ladies and gentlemen, President Putin,” Mr Biden continued, addressing Mr Zelenskyy before correcting himself.
“President Putin?” I’m going to beat President Putin and President Zelenskyy. “I am so focused on defeating Putin,” he said.
To make matters worse, he mispronounced Kamala Harris’ and Trump’s names when answering journalist queries.
When asked if he had any reservations about his vice president’s capacity to take the top job, he replied, “I wouldn’t have chosen Vice President Trump to be vice president if she wasn’t qualified to be president.”
Trump stepped in live on Mr Biden’s news conference, posting a video clip of himself stating, “Vice President Mr Trump.” on his social media network.
Mr Trump remarked sarcastically, “Great job, Joe!”
Despite the gaffes, Mr Biden used the media Q&A to make a strong defence of his international and domestic policies, as well as his candidacy for re-election.
“I’m not here for my legacy. “I’m in this to finish the job I started,” Mr Biden stated.
“My schedule has been full bore,” he remarked.
“So, if I slow down and can’t do the work, that means I shouldn’t be doing it. But there is no hint of that yet.
However, he is facing an increasing number of requests from lawmakers, entertainers, and other prominent Democrats to withdraw from the 2024 race.
Shortly after Thursday’s appearances, Jim Himes, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, issued a statement urging Mr Biden to “step aside”.
The 2024 election will determine the fate of American democracy, and we must field the strongest candidate possible to counter the threat posed by Trump’s promised MAGA tyranny.

I no longer believe that is Joe Biden, and I hope that, as he has done throughout his public career, he will continue to put our country first and, as promised, pave the way for a new generation of leaders.
It comes after Hollywood star George Clooney dropped his backing, claiming he’s “not the Joe ‘big f***ing deal’ Biden of 2010.
In a guest editorial for the New York Times, the lifelong Democrat stated, “I love Joe Biden. As a Senator. As vice president and president. I consider him a friend and believe in him.
Believe in his character. Believe in his morality. He’s won a lot of battles over the past four years.
However, he cannot win the war against time. Neither of us can.
