President Joe Biden’s wife, Jill Biden, has dropped the strongest hint yet that he will run for a second term, stating that there is “pretty much” nothing left to do but determine the time and place of the announcement.

The president of the United States has long stated that he intends to run for re-election, but he has not yet made it official.

As he would be 86 years old at the end of a second term, he has also struggled to allay concerns that he is too old to continue leading the nation.

Mrs. Biden asked: “How many times does he have to say it for you to believe it?” in Nairobi, the second and final stop of her five-day trip to Africa.

Granddaughter Naomi Biden, who is traveling with her, applauded the first lady’s remarks following the exclusive interview.

“Preach, Nana,” she tweeted.

In an interview with ABC News just hours later, Mr. Biden laughed when asked about his wife’s remarks.

He said: “God loves her. Look, I meant what I said; I have other tasks to complete before I launch a full-scale campaign.”

According to Biden’s aides, an announcement is likely to be made in April, after the first fundraising quarter concludes, which is roughly when President Barack Obama officially launched his re-election campaign.

The first lady has long been considered a pivotal figure in Mr. Biden’s plans. But he has deflected the question of whether she has a deciding vote on whether he runs for re-election.

“Of course, he will defer to me, as we are a married couple,” she said.

However, she later added, “believe me, he makes his own decisions.”

The interview took place on the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, with the first lady recalling her trip to the country in May to meet Olena Zelenska, the first lady of the besieged country.

Mrs. Biden also discussed in detail for the first time her skin cancer diagnosis. Which led to the removal of multiple basal cell lesions in January.

“I thought, oh, it’s just something on my eye,” she said. The term “ecosystem” refers to a group of people who work in the construction industry.

She reported that doctors then examined her chest and declared, “That is unquestionably basal cell.”

“So I’m lucky,” the first lady continued.

Mrs. Biden is the only first lady to continue her career in addition to her ceremonial duties, teaching writing and English to community college students.

And at age 71, she stated that she is not prepared to consider retirement.

“I know that I will know when it’s enough,” she said.

“But it’s not yet.”
