The former socialite was convicted of sex trafficking and sentenced to 20 years in jail.
According to official documentation, Ghislaine Maxwell has been sent to a Florida low-security jail.
Between 1994 and 2004, the 60-year-old was found guilty of luring young girls into massage rooms for infamous financier Jeffrey Epstein to molest.
This month, she filed an appeal against her conviction and 20-year sentence for sex trafficking.
According to prison records, Maxwell has been sent to FCI Tallahassee, a minimum-security facility in the capital of Florida.
A prison consulting firm reports that offenders have access to yoga, a talent show, and movies.
The facility’s brochure indicates that detainees can participate in sports such as softball, basketball, and volleyball, and pursue hobbies such as painting, leatherwork, and ceramics.
During her three-week trial, Maxwell was labeled as “dangerous,” and jurors were told how she assisted Epstein in luring vulnerable children to his different properties for sexual assault.
After it was discovered that one of the jurors in Maxwell’s trial had omitted to reveal he had been sexually molested, Maxwell’s attorneys previously indicated they would file an appeal.
When the socialite requested a retrial, her attorney stated that juror Scotty David’s behavior “demonstrated a lack of reliability and a desire for fame.”
Judge Alison Nathan rejected this argument.
And before her sentence hearing, Maxwell’s attorneys argued that she should receive no more than four or five years in prison.
However, the judge stated that she “participated regularly and for many years in a horrible conspiracy to traffic young girls, some as young as 14.”
Judge Nathan continued, “The defendant’s behavior was vile and predatory.
“Ms. Maxwell collaborated with Mr. Epstein to identify young, vulnerable victims who played a crucial role in facilitating sexual abuse.”
Since July 2020, despite repeated attempts to have her released on bond, Maxwell has been incarcerated.
In August of 2019, Epstein was discovered dead in his cell in a federal prison in Manhattan as he awaited trial on sex trafficking allegations.
