Vladimir Putin is attempting to starve and freeze the Ukrainian people into submission this winter by assaulting their water and electricity supply, but he will fail, according to the foreign secretary.

On his first visit to Ukraine, James Cleverly stated that he had never witnessed such damage and that the United Kingdom and other allies needed to maintain their assistance until Kyiv “prevails.”

After a volley of Russian missile strikes on the electrical grid, there was no electricity or water at the British ambassador’s residence in the capital when the minister arrived on Wednesday, revealing that he had temporarily experienced the basic hardships encountered by the majority of Ukrainians.

“By the following day’s lunch, the water had been repaired and restored,” Mr. Cleverly added.

Foreign Secretary Johnson said Putin's attempt to starve Ukrainians into surrendering would fail.

“The speed and resilience of the people of Kyiv and Ukraine is a marvel to watch, which is why I am certain that the Ukrainians will prevail with the sustained support of the international community.”

Friday, the foreign secretary spoke in Irpin, a town on the outskirts of the capital that was extensively bombarded during the initial weeks of the full-scale invasion, when Russian soldiers attempted to storm Kyiv.

The Ukrainian military, aided by British and other Western weapons, forced them back, paving the way for efforts to repair the devastated lives of residents, even while the conflict continues in the east and south and the fear of airstrikes remains constant.

Mr. Cleverly visited a school that was destroyed in the assault and will reopen next week thanks in part to British funding.

In addition to armaments, Putin offered further civilian help for Ukraine, including 24 ambulances and six armored vehicles.

The foreign secretary continued with his journey to Ukraine, which included a meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday, despite entering the country as Vladimir Putin’s forces were launching missiles against electricity and water facilities.

“I believe it is vital that the United Kingdom demonstrate to the Ukrainian people – who are bearing the brunt of Russia’s violence – that we stand shoulder to shoulder with them,” he stated.

Mr. Cleverly stated that the Russian strategy of harming people was a sign of their desperation on the battlefield.

“Vladimir Putin is attempting to starve and freeze the Ukrainians into submission by assaulting their electricity and water infrastructure,” he claimed.

He said, “I’ve also witnessed the same Ukrainians attempting to live their lives as normally as possible. These college students were yearning to return to class, interact with their peers, and study.

“We are pleased to support the resilience and tenacity of the Ukrainian people, which gives me no doubt that the Ukrainians will prevail and Vladimir Putin’s invasion will fail.”
