- Delta flight makes emergency landing after landing gear failure
- Passengers instructed to brace as plane touches runway in emergency landing
- No injuries reported, Delta emphasizes safety and training protocols
The airline claims its crews are meticulously trained to handle a variety of emergencies, and no passengers were injured.
After the nose landing gear failed to deploy, a Delta flight was compelled to perform an emergency landing.
The plane, which was traveling from Atlanta to Charlotte, circled while crew members attempted to repair the issue. But passengers were eventually instructed to assume the brace position.
In an audio transmission from air traffic control, the pilot announces, “We have a nose wheel update indication, we’ll have to declare an emergency.”
Delta reports no injuries despite images of the aircraft’s nose contacting the runway with emergency slide deployed.
The airstrip was closed for approximately eight hours as the airplane was removed and the tarmac was inspected.
A mom whose kid was on the flight also posted a snapshot of the plane and praised the pilot’s “phenomenal” performance.
Delta stated in a statement that landing gear failures were “rare” and that its personnel “train intensively to safely manage through a variety of scenarios.”
It expressed regret for the inconvenience and added, “Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people.”
