Mr. Biden, who is fully immunized and has gotten two booster shots, tested positive for Covid-19 for the first time on July 21. Six days later, he tested negative, only to test positive again on July 30.

In a prior statement, Dr. O’Connor mentioned that the president was taking the antiviral medication Paxlovid, which can cause a virus comeback in a tiny number of patients.

The White House reported that the president experienced modest symptoms, including a runny nose and exhaustion, and continued to work while in isolation.

According to his official itinerary, he is planning to visit the southern state of Kentucky – which has been devastated by floods – on Monday.

Mr. Biden is the second president of the United States to contract Covid-19 while in office. In October 2020, his predecessor Donald Trump was hospitalized for three days after contracting influenza.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there have been 91.8 million Covid cases and over one million deaths in the United States (CDC).
