Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom referred to Mr. Navalny as the “most ferocious champion of Russian democracy,” while President Emmanuel Macron of France stated that his demise demonstrates the Kremlin’s “weakness and their fear of all adversaries.”
President Joe Biden of the United States has expressed his “consideration” of punitive measures against Moscow subsequent to attributing the demise of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny to Vladimir Putin and his “thugs.”
Joining other world leaders, Mr. Biden demanded that the Kremlin be held accountable. He described himself as “outraged” but “not surprised” by the demise of the prominent Putin critic.
Mr. Navalny was dubbed the “most ferocious advocate for Russian democracy” by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and his death serves as a reminder to Canadian Leader Justin Trudeau “exactly what a monstrous creature Putin is.”
Russia’s Polar Wolf penal colony north of the Arctic Circle housed Mr. Navalny for 19 years for radicalism.
According to Russian prison authorities, he passed away on Friday after becoming ill after a walk.
Putin bears responsibility
Mr. Biden paid tribute at the White House following the release of the reports to an individual who, in his words, “bravely” opposed the “corruption” and “violence” of the Russian president.
Mr. Biden further stated, “The Russian government intends to present its own narrative.”

He continued, “We do not know precisely what transpired, but it is certain that Putin and his thugs were responsible for Navalny’s demise.”
The White House continues to pursue additional information regarding the demise of Mr. Navalny. However, this development has exacerbated the already strained diplomatic ties between Moscow and Washington, DC.
Following their June 2021 summit in Geneva, Mr. Biden cautioned Mr. Putin. He said that the demise of Mr. Navalny would have catastrophic repercussions for the Kremlin.
Mr. Biden responded at the White House on Friday when asked what repercussions Mr. Putin might face: “That was three years ago; since then, they have encountered an interminable number of repercussions.”
Since its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Moscow has been subject to sanctions. Hundreds of thousands of Russian soldiers have been slain in the conflict, he said.
Biden Considers Response, Urges Support
Mr. Biden stated that he is “considering what else could be done,” but added that no sanctions were in place at the time he issued the warning in 2021.
Additionally, the president of the United States implored Republican hardliners in Congress to support additional funding to pay for more weapons for the Ukrainian military, which Russia invaded nearly two years ago.
“History is watching the House of Representatives,” he stated. “At this critical juncture, the failure to support Ukraine will never be forgotten.”
Although the Russian president has not commented on the demise of Mr. Navalny. Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, stated that Mr. Putin had been informed of the development.
Mr. Navalny’s demise has elicited an “unacceptable” and “absolutely rabid” response from Western leaders, according to Mr. Peskov, who stated that he was unable to divulge further information.
Scholz, Macron, and Sunak all react to the “huge tragedy.”
The death of the imprisoned dissident was called “terrible news” by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Mr. Sunak stated, “My thoughts are with his wife and the people of Russia, for whom this is a tremendous tragedy.”
He added that Alexei Navalny, who devoted his entire life to defending democracy in Russia, exhibited extraordinary bravery.
The Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom, Lord Cameron, remarked that Mr. Navalny had “valiantly fought against corruption” his entire life.
Global Leaders Slam Putin’s Actions
“Putin’s Russia fabricated charges against him, poisoned him, and sent him to an Arctic penal colony. He has since tragically died,” he continued.
No one should have any doubts about the abhorrent character of Putin’s regime. He should bear responsibility for what has transpired.
In the meantime, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Mr. Putin’s responsibility was “obvious” and that it is inconsequential to whom it befalls as long as his position remains secure.
