Volodymyr Zelenskyy has encouraged Ukrainians to conserve electricity as Russian attacks decimate the nation’s electrical grid.
Saturday, the president of Ukraine called a “new huge strike” in multiple locations, stating, “The primary aim of terrorists is electricity. We are working to restore power to the residents as quickly as possible.”
According to Ukraine’s air force, more least a dozen Russian missiles damaged energy facilities and other infrastructure around the country.
A member of the Ukrainian parliament, Kira Rudik, tweeted that 1.5 million people were without power due to the blackouts induced by the strikes in various regions of the nation.
Mr. Zelenskyy assured that his military, with the assistance of its allies, would improve upon its already impressive record of intercepting missiles.
“Ukrainians are unified, and they are certain Russia has no chance to win this war,” he added.
“Our armed forces are receiving all they require to preserve the nation and are advancing every day, I emphasize every day.”
Warning to Putin on the threat of nuclear attack
Separately, President Zelenskyy urged the international community to warn Russia that a nuclear attack on government facilities in the Ukrainian capital would be responded to with a similar attack on Moscow.
He told Canadian media, “Now we are constantly hearing calls for Russia to hit Ukraine’s decision-making center.”
“What should the global community do? Whether Ukraine is a NATO member is irrelevant. This is taking place in Europe. No one is permitted to extort like a terrorist.”
G7 condemns the kidnapping of Zaporizhzhya nuclear facility officials
Meanwhile, the G7 nations have denounced Russia’s kidnapping of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant’s leadership.
The facility, the largest of its kind in Europe, has been involved in combat during the war, causing concerns about its physical integrity and fears of a nuclear catastrophe.
G7 non-proliferation directors general said in a statement, “We deplore Russia’s repeated kidnapping of Ukrainian ZNPP leadership and workers.”
“We strongly encourage Russia to quickly return complete control of the ZNPP to Ukraine, its rightful sovereign owner.”
Civilians are urged to escape the seized city of Kherson
Citing a serious military situation, Russian occupation officials in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson have ordered citizens to evacuate immediately.
One inhabitant of Kherson told that the evacuation is not intended for them.
Russian soldiers have abandoned their positions in the villages of Charivne and Chkalove, as reported by the Ukrainian military as its forces advanced southward through the Kherson region.
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Kremlin forces are likely prepared to demolish the dam at the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, flooding and expanding the Dnipro River to halt Ukrainian advances.
According to the Ukrainian military, the Russian leadership has relocated their officer corps across the Dnieper but has left newly mobilized troops on the western bank.
Using such inexperienced forces to execute a delaying maneuver could cause Russian forces to flee if Ukrainian forces continue the attack, according to the ISW.
