Flowers, balloons, and stuffed animals were left by vigil attendees following the drowning deaths of three boys in an icy lake.

On Sunday, three children aged eight, ten, and eleven were rescued from a lake in Babbs Mill Park, Solihull, but later perished.

Searches of the water will continue into Tuesday, according to police, although no further missing persons have been reported.

A six-year-old kid who was also rescued is still being treated in the hospital.

Monday evening, dozens gathered in Kingshurst for the vigil.

“Throughout the entire day, people stood in shock, unsure of what to do or say, and therefore remained silent,” he stated.

Flowers and soft toys had been left for the boys and their families, along with messages of love and support.

One tribute, written by a youngster, said, “Rest in peace, I will miss you forever.”

Initially, members of the public and police officers entered the water to rescue the children, until firemen with specialized training in water rescue rescued the group.

West Midlands Police stated that a police officer had to punch through the ice to rescue the lads.

West Midlands Police Superintendent Richard Harris stated that the families were directing how much material was released to the media and that the police were doing “all we can to support them.”

One resident, Dan, reported hearing sirens from his lake-view apartment.

When he saw rescue personnel and others running towards the site, he reportedly grabbed three coats.

“I gave two jackets that I was wearing, and when they took the first two lads out, I ran back for two or three more jackets and a few towels.

Dan stated, “Fifteen minutes later, I was back in my apartment and they had taken them up on stretchers.”

Ian Courts, a councilman from Solihull, stated, “We are utterly surprised by what has occurred.

Our thoughts and prayers must be with the affected families. I cannot fathom what the families are experiencing.”

At least one of the youngsters attended St. Anthony’s Catholic Primary School, which was closed following the incident on Monday. On Tuesday morning, the school reopened.

The chair of the board of governors, Marcus Brain, stated, “It’s a very, very close-knit community; we have families who have been here for five generations, and everyone knows everyone else.

Everyone I’ve spoken with is in a complete state of shock.

Mother-of-four Comfort Konfor stated that she had been unable to sleep and had continued to pray.

“Children continually come to mind,” she stated.

Pastor Emil Kerekes of Connection Church Kingshurst wished for the families to know they have their support.

“All the other church leaders and group leaders in the local community, we want to come up with a plan to assist them in some way,” he said.

The police believe there were several witnesses at the lake that they have yet to interview and are urging them to come forward.

Superintendent Harris remarked that the impacted families were “extremely heartbroken” by the event.

He continued, “This time of year, in the run-up to Christmas and so close to the actual event, also contributes to the disaster.”

The police stated that they were doing all possible to assist the families.
