The Crown Room and Royal Apartments of the castle became inaccessible on Wednesday, shortly before 11 a.m., following the incident.
As a consequence of the protest at Edinburgh Castle targeting the Stone of Destiny, three individuals have been detained and charged.
Historic Environment Scotland (HES) reported that the protective glass enclosing the stone had sustained some damage.
Incident and Closure Fallout
In the aftermath of the incident that occurred in the Crown Room just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, the castle’s Crown Room and Royal Apartments were rendered inaccessible.
A protest group claimed that the incident mirrored the history of the Stone of Destiny, which was returned to Scotland from Westminster Abbey by a cohort of University of Glasgow students seven centuries subsequent to its pilferage during the Wars of Independence.
Two women, aged 21 and 25, as well as a 21-year-old man, were detained and charged in relation to the incident, according to Police Scotland.

The group stated in a release: “Food is a fundamental human right. Hunger is an issue of political decision-making. The current era is characterised by instability, crisis, and greed.”
Protective Measures and Police Response
According to an HES spokesperson, a “small disturbance” occurred in the Crown Room, and police were dispatched to the location.
The spokesperson further stated, “Although the protective glass encasing the honours has sustained some damage. Neither the casing nor the honours themselves were compromised.”

While the castle remains accessible to visitors, the Crown Room and Royal Apartments have been temporarily closed.
“A spokesperson for Police Scotland stated: “We were dispatched to a complaint of a minor demonstration within Edinburgh Castle at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday.
Officers arrested and charged a 21-year-old man, two women aged 21 and 25, and a damage perpetrator.
They are scheduled to appear in the Sheriff Court of Edinburgh on Thursday, November 16th. Procurator Fiscal: A report will be submitted.”
