Thomas O’Halloran was frequently spotted busking for charity with his accordion or harmonica in the Greenford area, where he was characterized as a “well-liked and beloved” individual.
A man has been charged with the slaying of 87-year-old Thomas O’Halloran, who was stabbed to death while riding his mobility scooter, according to police.
After being arrested on Thursday, Lee Byer, 44, of Allenby Avenue, Southall, west London, appeared at Willesden Magistrates’ Court today and was remanded in jail.
Tuesday afternoon, Mr. O’Halloran was stabbed in the chest on a road in nearby Greenford.
Police suspect, he traveled a short distance on his scooter before flagging down a citizen who called for assistance.
Despite the efforts of police and paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the site – a street along the bustling A40 – despite the location being close to the highway.
Mr. O’Halloran was well-known for performing in front of his local supermarket and Greenford station to raise funds for charity, notably for Ukraine.
He is claimed to have frequently returned to Ennistymon, County Clare, in the west of Ireland, where he was born.
Mr. O’Halloran is survived by his sister, two brothers, nieces, and nephews, among others.
Stephen Pound, a former Labour representative for Greenford, paid homage to the 87-year-old.
