Specialist firearms officers killed the canines after the man in his seventies was attacked in Bognor Regis on Friday morning.
A man in his seventies remains hospitalized following an attack by two canines, both of which were subsequently shot and killed by police.
The elderly man was attacked by animals in Bognor Regis, West Sussex, on Friday morning, according to the Sussex Police.
A 29-year-old man from Bognor Regis was arrested on suspicion of being in control of a critically unruly dog.
At approximately 9:50 a.m., the police received multiple reports of a man being attacked by two canines, believed to be Rottweilers.
Specialized firearms officers who arrived swiftly and were authorized to euthanize the animals killed both dogs.
“Due to the ongoing threat – and to protect the victim and the broader community – specialist firearms officers were quickly dispatched to the scene and granted permission to bring the dogs under safe control,” stated the police department.
“We can confirm that firearms were discharged and that both of the dogs are now deceased.”
Chief Superintendent Alex Geldart stated, “We recognize the distressing nature of this incident and want to reassure the community that there is no additional risk associated with it.”
Specialist officers are providing support to the victim’s family.
This investigation is proceeding swiftly, and inquiries are underway to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the incident.
