A car collided with campers and a tent at a campsite, injuring nine people, two of whom were severely injured.
A Ford Fiesta exited the roadway in Newgale, Pembrokeshire, and photographs revealed a cordon surrounding a collapsed tent.
Saturday night, the car went over a ditch, rolled into a tent, and ran over a group of people, according to the proprietor of Newgale Campground.
Mike Harris stated that a baby in the tent who was in a cot escaped significant injury.
Dyfed-Powys Police reported that the car crashed into the campsite at approximately 22:30 BST, with car occupants among the injured.
Alongside the campsite, which was full of tents, is a road.
According to police, the two severely injured individuals remained hospitalized.
Clare Harris, who co-owns the campground with her husband, stated that the automobile attempted to brake as it descended a hill.
She stated, “It flipped and rolled several times before crashing into the tent.”
“There was a young child, a baby, in the tent at the time,” she continued. Thankfully, they’re fine.
According to Mr. Harris, the car had to be elevated to free the victims, who were severely injured but could have been “much worse.”
He stated that it was “fortunate” that there were two surgeons and two firefighters on the campsite who were “able to take control and make the best of the situation.”
Mr. Harris said he was “extremely impressed” by the emergency services’ quick arrival of 15 cars.
“Deviated from the road”
Welsh Ambulance Service reported that a Coastguard rescue helicopter transported one patient to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
Six ambulances were dispatched to the scene, and paramedics transported five additional patients to the hospital.
Four people were taken to Glangwili General Hospital in Carmarthen and one to Morriston Hospital in Swansea.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service dispatched a crew as well.
“Shortly after 10:30 p.m., multiple calls to emergency services reported a single-vehicle collision at Newgale Campsite,” stated the police.
“The blue Ford Fiesta, which contained several passengers, is believed to have been traveling from Roch in the direction of St. Davids when it lost control and veered off the road.”
Officers are requesting any relevant information.
“We are particularly interested in any dashcam or doorbell footage that may have captured the vehicle’s journey from Roch to the crash site in Newgale,” they explained.
