His family described the 26-year-old as a “lifelong” Everton FC fan who was “happy” to be working on the construction site.

A construction worker who was slain at Everton FC’s new stadium construction site in Liverpool has been identified.

Monday around 1 pm, Michael Jones, 26, from Kirkby, Merseyside, perished in hospital following the incident at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Mr. Jones was a “lifelong blue” who was “thrilled to be working on the new stadium,” according to his family.

“The family thanks everyone for their continued support. Michael, our cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away with our deepest condolences,” the statement read.

“We would like to thank the NHS personnel and coworkers who did everything they could for Michael. He will be profoundly missed.”

Wednesday is the scheduled date for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Merseyside Police stated that the department was collaborating with the Health and Safety Executive and that investigations were ongoing.

On Monday, Everton FC announced on X (previously Twitter) that everyone at the club was “heartbroken” by the news.

In this unimaginably sad moment, the thoughts and condolences of everyone associated with Everton are with his family, friends, and teammates, the club said.

The stadium is presently under construction and is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2025-26 season.

When completed, the stadium, which is estimated to cost around £500 million to construct, will accommodate nearly 53,000 spectators.

It shall be called Everton Stadium.
