The Metropolitan Police justified their response to a Tasering and fatal shooting of two dogs.
Sunday, shortly after 17:00 BST, the force was alerted to allegations of a woman being attacked by a dog on Commercial Road in Poplar, east London.
Social media footage showed a guy with two dogs near Limehouse Cut being Tasered and killed.
According to the Met, a man has been apprehended.
One video shows police pursuing the man and his dogs with a catcher pole, riot shield, and gun.
The police can be heard attempting to convince the individual to give up his dogs. Before the two dogs were slain, the situation seems to have grown increasingly tense.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Department (Met) said, “Officers responded to a location where the aggressive behavior of two dogs presented a significant threat to them.
“A man was arrested about the incident on suspicion of having a critically out-of-control dog and assault charges. He has been brought into custody by the police.”
The statement added that a Taser was discharged during the incident and that both dogs “were destroyed by police at the scene” but no one was transported to the hospital.
The statement continued, “This is never an easy decision for any officer to make. But police must act when necessary to prevent further injury.”
In addition, the Met’s directorate of professional standards will review the incident’s circumstances.
