The Employment Tribunal received the claim from the former City defender, who asserts that he was not compensated in 2021, the year he was charged with rape and sexual assault.
A former Manchester City player is being sued by footballer Benjamin Mendy for “unauthorised deductions from wages.”
In recent days, the 29-year-old former City defender filed a claim with the Employment Tribunal alleging that he was not compensated following his 2021 rape and sexual assault charges.
Acquittal and Legal Representation
A jury in a retrial at Chester Crown Court in July acquitted Mendy of both counts of rape and attempted rape, each with an individual culpability rating of not guilty.
In January, the footballer was acquitted of one charge of sexual assault and six counts of rape against five women.
Unpaid Wages and Neglect
Mendy, who currently represents French Ligue 1 club Lorient, has been pursuing the reimbursement of compensation that he believes he was entitled to from the time of his contract’s termination in June 2023.
“Nick De Marco KC (represented by Laffer Abogados (Madrid)) is acting on behalf of former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy in a multimillion-pound claim for unauthorised wage deductions,” he said in a statement.

“From September 2021, when he was charged with multiple offences, all of which were subsequently abandoned. Until the conclusion of his contract in June 2023, Manchester City FC neglected to remunerate Mr. Mendy with any wages.”
The matter will be presented to an Employment Tribunal.
The lodged claim has not yet elicited a response from Manchester City.
Mendy also represented the club in three Premier League championships and was a member of France’s 2018 World Cup-winning squad. He was a City player until August 2021.
