The allegations against Greenwood were read aloud before the adjournment of the proceedings until later today when bail will be considered.
Mason Greenwood has been charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault, and has appeared in court.
The Manchester United player wore a grey hoodie and grey jogging pants when he appeared before the public gallery.
The three counts involve the same female defendant.
Greenwood, age 21, was arrested in January following the woman’s online allegations.
He had been out on bond until Saturday when prosecutors decided to charge him for allegedly violating his release conditions.
Greenwood confirmed his identity, date of birth, and address at the Manchester Magistrates’ Court hearing on Monday.
The charges were read aloud before adjourning the proceedings until later today when bail will be determined.
The alleged attempted rape occurred in October 2021, the assault in December 2021, and the controlling and coercive behavior occurred between November 2018 and October of this year.
When the allegations surfaced, Manchester United suspended Greenwood, and he has not played or trained with the club since.
He has scored 35 goals and made 129 appearances for the club.
Greenwood was also taken from the popular FIFA 22 video game, and his sponsorship relationship with Nike was canceled.
