- Malvern Hills Cloud Inversion
- Photographer Captures Rare Phenomenon
- Spectacular Images Amidst Fog
An amateur photographer atop the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire documented a rare meteorological occurrence.
Above them, frosty peaks can be seen emerging from a canopy of clouds against a blue sky in the images.
These phenomena are referred to as cloud inversions or temperature inversions.
They manifest when ambient temperatures are lower than surface temperatures near the ground, which is the opposite of the typical circumstance.
“Although it was gloomy and foggy in Worcester, there was this magnificent spectacle just a few miles down the road,” said photographer Nick Sturdy, a city resident.
Mr. Sturdy elaborated, “I’ve only recently resumed my photography endeavours.” Every day, I endeavour to post one image on Instagram.
On Friday night, I suggested ascending the Malvern Hills amid a cloud inversion to a friend.

Upon discovering that someone had uploaded an image of a sunrise captured there on Saturday morning, I packed my camera. Then, I made my way there.
He stated, “I walked from the Wyche Cutting to the Worcestershire Beacon and back, stopping to take over three hundred photographs along the way.”
The photographs of Mr Sturdy depict opaque clouds that obscure the landscapes of northern Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, and Worcestershire.
He stated, “I was so happy I had made the journey that morning, but the photographs, as joyful as I am with them, do not do justice to the feeling I had of being there.”
