  • Record-breaking migrant influx witnessed in 2024
  • Home Office data shows increased Channel crossings this year

Photographic evidence emerges depicting the clothed children being escorted to safety after their perilous voyage across the English Channel.

Children were among those carried ashore in Dover, Kent, after their voyage across the English Channel, less than a week after 2024’s record-breaking migrant influx was documented.

Border Force vessels carrying significant numbers of individuals, including young children accompanied by staff and draped in blankets, docked in the port of Kent.

As of this moment, 4,306 individuals have traversed the Channel, according to data from the Home Office.

This compares to 3,770 individuals on the same date the previous year.

The ten vessels carried 514 passengers on Wednesday, ranked as the busiest day of 2024 thus far.

It was the highest daily total since December 2 and the greatest number of crossings in March since records began.

Although recorded arrivals are higher thus far this year compared to the initial three months of 2023, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has maintained that his strategy to “stop the boats” is effective.

The Rwanda Bill, which the government introduced, is currently stalled in parliamentary purgatory following a sequence of additional setbacks in the House of Lords.

It is not expected to be debated by Members of Parliament once more until Westminster returns from Easter.

To save lives and stop the boats, a Home Office spokesperson stated, “We remain committed to building on the successes that saw arrivals drop by more than a third last year, including tougher legislation and agreements with international partners.”
