According to police, there is “credible intelligence” that protesters intend to disrupt the British Grand Prix.
Approximately 400 000 Formula 1 fan are expected to attend the race weekend at Silverstone Circuit.
The Northamptonshire Police Department has issued a warning to discourage potential protesters.
Ch Insp Tom Thompson stated, “We have credible information that a group of protestors intend to disrupt the event and possibly invade the track on the day of the race.”
He stated that officers believed any protest would involve environmental concerns.
Northamptonshire Police stated that additional personnel would be on hand throughout the race weekend if protestors attempted to disrupt the event.
Ch Insp Thompson issued a direct appeal on Facebook to any protestors to “not put yourselves, the drivers, and the numerous marshals, volunteers, and members of the public at risk.”
“If you proceed with this reckless plan, you will endanger lives,” he stated.
Stuart Pringle, managing director of Silverstone, stated, “We work closely with Northamptonshire Police and emergency service agencies to develop plans and procedures to ensure that we are prepared to handle such situations.”
He urged Silverstone spectators to “act as our eyes and ears and report any suspicious activity to a steward”
