Ajax, the club where Edwin van der Sar served as chief executive until last season, provides an update on the former football star’s condition following a cerebral hemorrhage.
After sustaining bleeding around the brain, former Manchester United and Netherlands custodian Edwin van der Sar remains in a “stable but still concerning” condition.
On Friday, the 52-year-old was admitted to intensive care.
Edwin van der Sar will remain in intensive care for the time being, according to a statement released on Saturday by Dutch football club Ajax, where he served as chief executive officer until the end of last season.
“His condition is stable, but still cause for concern. Ajax shares this information on behalf of Edwin’s wife, Annemarie van der Sar.
“Both the Van der Sar family and Ajax are grateful and deeply moved by the outpouring of support.”
The Dutch media reported that Van der Sar fell unwell while on vacation in Croatia.
Throughout his career, he played for Ajax, Juventus, and Manchester United, winning the Champions League on penalty kicks with the latter in 2008.
He represented the Netherlands 130 times and served on the Ajax council for over a decade.
