The adolescent was reported missing to police on Saturday and later discovered unresponsive on Dawlish Beach.
Albina Yevko, a Ukrainian girl who was discovered unresponsive on a Devon shore, has been identified.
The 14-year-old refugee was reported missing on Saturday and later discovered on Dawlish Beach.
Albina was airlifted to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, where she later passed away after searches were conducted with assistance from the police helicopter and coastguard.
Inna Yevko, Albina’s mother, said, “Myself and my family are devastated to have lost our dear Albina.”
Nothing can ever replace her in our affections.
“At this exceedingly difficult time, we ask that our privacy be respected.”
Detective Inspector Becky Davies said: “Our investigation continues as we attempt to piece together Albina’s final hours.
“Officers continue to conduct door-to-door investigations as we attempt to identify any witnesses or CCTV footage that captures Albina’s movements.
“While this death remains unexplained, we are not regarding it as suspicious at this time.
“We are awaiting the results of Thursday’s forensic autopsy, but in the meantime, we ask that the family and loved ones of Albina be afforded space and privacy as they come to terms with their loss.
“Our thoughts are very much with those who knew Albina at this tragic time, and the close-knit Dawlish community who will no doubt be in shock over this loss.”
Yesterday, police verified that the Ukrainian Embassy and the Home Office had been informed.
