On Christmas Eve, just before 11:45 p.m., the Stratford Town FC player was stabbed on the dancefloor of The Crane nightclub in Digbeth. The police have begun a homicide investigation and are monitoring the venue’s CCTV footage.
Police have made a renewed request for information regarding the alleged murder of football player Cody Fisher, as a friend pays tribute to him and implores him to return home.
Mr. Fisher, 23 years old, was stabbed on the dancefloor of the Crane nightclub in the Digbeth neighborhood of Birmingham at 11:45 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Half an hour later, despite efforts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead. A murder inquiry has been initiated.
Jess Chatwin, one of his buddies, tweeted a tribute to the footballer that is no longer accessible to the public.
“You did not deserve any of this,” she wrote. I’m very sorry this happened to you, my sweetheart. Please return home. I will always love you, Cody Fisher.”
She also included the phrase “Love you forever, my code” in her Instagram bio.
West Midlands Police commented on Twitter, “Detectives worked through the night and the investigation continues.”
We’re thrilled with the reaction thus far, but we’re still looking for anybody who witnessed or videotaped the incident to contact us.
They gave a link for submitting information, images, and videos.
According to the request, no one has been arrested as of yet.
Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood, who is conducting the investigation, said in a statement on the West Midlands Police Facebook, “This was a young man enjoying a night out with friends on Christmas Day, and our thoughts are with his family and friends tonight.”
“We know that hundreds of people were in the nightclub at the time of the incident. Although we have already spoken with several people, we still need to hear from anyone who was present and who observed or possibly filmed the incident.
“We suspect that a group of persons approached the victim, who was subsequently stabbed; therefore, we are working diligently to identify everyone involved.”
In a statement, Mr. Fisher’s family said, “They have broken our hearts; I have lost my best buddy.” My family and I request privacy and sensitivity during this heartbreaking time.”
Mr. Fisher played for the Southern League Premier Division Central club Stratford Town FC. Additionally, he had played for Bromsgrove Sporting.
Jed McCrory, the chairman of Stratford Town, told that “everyone is horrified by the news” and referred to Mr. Fisher as a “brilliant footballer” and “beautiful, gorgeous young man.”
Mr. Fisher’s acquaintance who played with him at Bromsgrove last season said, “He was one of the nicest individuals you could want to meet.” He would do anything to help.”
The club issued a statement describing Mr. Fisher’s death as a “tragic loss” and extending its condolences to his family and friends.
They stated that they were “extremely startled and saddened” by the tragedy and that the New Year’s Eve celebration had been canceled.
Detectives are reviewing the venue’s surveillance footage and urge anyone who was in the area to contact them. The club will remain closed as police collect evidence and maintain a presence in the area.
