Carly Burd transformed her garden to produce organic fruits and vegetables as part of her “A Meal on Me With Love” initiative but claims that it was destroyed when 5kg of salt was dumped on the soil.
The proprietor of a sabotaged allotment has received more than £250,000 in donations.
Carly Burd, 43, from Harlow, Essex, redesigned her garden to help feed people during the cost of living crisis, but the apparent assault damaged the fruit, vegetables, and soil.
Ms. Burd said she was “heartbroken” after 5kg of salt was spread on the soil, destroying her crops, in her initial TikTok video, which was viewed by millions.
She stated that she was overwhelmed by the quantity of money raised, which exceeded her £4,000 goal.
“I experience anxiety when I look at [the money].” “I must have my son check it,” she stated.
“It is astounding. I did all of this for free. I traveled from eight-foot brambles to this location with nothing. And now that I have this money, I can do so much to assist our community.”
The avid gardener continues to receive donations from luminaries including Gary Lineker and BBC Dragon Steven Bartlett.
The owner of the allotment described how the devastation “hurt [her] so much” because she had been on the plot with her two children two days before it was salted.
“One was only five years old when he planted onions for someone else for an hour and a half,” she said.
“That is why it ached so badly. As I am constantly knocked down, I can lift myself and continue.
“The thought of those children planting them made them so happy, as they knew they were going to assist others. Then for someone else to act in this manner was simply… why?
However, she has returned to harvesting her organic produce and nourishing humans.
“Lettuce won’t fill you up,” Ms. Burd says, so she’ll plant root veggies.
A police investigation has also been initiated to identify those responsible for the attack.
