In the interview, which will be broadcast in its entirety this evening, Camilla discusses how Queen Elizabeth II carved out her niche for many years as a “solitary woman” in a male-dominated society.
In the interview, which will run on Sunday night shortly before the nation’s minute of silence, the Queen Consort appears to have fond memories of Queen Elizabeth.
The Queen Consort has recorded a personal homage to the late Queen, recalling her “beautiful blue eyes” and declaring, “I shall never forget her smile.”
“I don’t recall anyone else being there save the Queen,” the Queen Consort continues, joining the majority of the nation for whom the Queen was the only British monarch they had ever known or remembered.
Camilla continues, “She has always been a part of our life. I am now 75 years old, and I just recall the Queen being there.
“It must have been very challenging for her to be a single woman.
“Neither prime ministers nor presidents were female. She was unique, thus I believe she created her role.”
Camilla, in remembrance of the late king, adds, “She has such beautiful blue eyes that, when she smiles, illuminate her entire face.
“I will never forget her grin. This smile is indelible.”
Queen Elizabeth endorsed the then-Duchess of Cornwall as “Queen Consort” when the time came on the eve of her Platinum Jubilee in February 2022, stating it was her “sincere wish.”
She urged the populace to support both her son-in-law and her daughter-in-law when Charles became king.
In her later years, the monarch made a sensible decision by organizing her affairs and ensuring a seamless transfer.
It concluded years of controversy about what Camilla, Charles’s ex-mistress, would ultimately be known as.
Camilla was blamed for the dissolution of the prince’s marriage to Diana, Princess of Wales, and when news of their affair first surfaced, she was subjected to venomous criticism.
In the decades following the Waleses’ divorce, Diana’s untimely death in 1997, and Camilla’s admittance into The Firm, however, the public’s perception of the former Mrs. Parker Bowles has improved.
Camilla has assumed a more prominent position within the Royal Family after her marriage to Charles in 2005, including riding beside the Queen in her Diamond Jubilee carriage parade in 2012.
Crowned monarch?
In 2016, before the Queen’s official 90th birthday, she was made a privy counselor and began attending the state opening of parliament.
The Privy Council is a formal advisory council to the British Sovereign.
She is currently addressed as Her Majesty, Queen Consort Camilla, and it is believed that she will be proclaimed Queen at the King’s coronation.
