A man with a “fixation” on gaining access to royal grounds admits to twice trespassing on Buckingham Palace property.
Daniel Brydges, 33, from Portsmouth, invaded the grounds of the royal house in central London on December 18 and 22, 2017.
Both times, the Queen had been at Windsor Castle.
On 18 December, while appearing in Westminster Magistrates’ Court, he admitted criminal damage to the property’s surrounding barbed-wire fence.
Prosecutor Sudara Weerasena stated that security guards observed Brydges on CCTV footage on the 18th of December, approximately 17:00 GMT after he hopped over one fence and scaled another.
Officers tracked him down and apprehended him. She stated that during a police interview on the event, Brydges told cops he was homeless and looking for a place to sleep.
On 19 December, Brydges was released from custody on the condition that he does not attempt to enter any royal houses.
Ms. Weerasena said that on 22 December at 13:06 GMT, Brydges again jumped The Royal Mews gate and “crouched behind a Land Rover” before being confronted by a security guard.
She claimed, “At this time, he climbs back over the fence and attempts to flee.”
Ms. Weerasena reported that Brydges was pursued by the security officer and afterward “stated he had entered to retrieve a water bottle he had dropped.”
She stated, “While on bond, he committed the second offense. He was warned explicitly not to enter the area.”
Brydges, of Laburnum Grove, Portsmouth, was released on bail until his sentencing on November 9 at the same court.
