On the north face of Ben Nevis, an avalanche has claimed the life of a man.
The avalanche was reported to emergency services at approximately 15:35 GMT on Friday, and the 48-year-old was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Another guy, aged 40, was transferred to the Belford Hospital in Fort William with serious injuries. Their relatives have been notified.
The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, which was summoned with a helicopter, estimated that the avalanche was around 600 meters long (1969ft).
Ben Nevis, which stands at 1,345 meters (4,412 feet), is the highest summit in Britain.
In a Facebook post, the mountain rescue team said that the guys were located in the number two gully and expressed their condolences to the families of the climbers.
The message stated, “Due to challenging weather circumstances, the aircraft could only provide limited help.”
This resulted in a lengthy extrication of the casualties, and eight hours after the initial call, the patient was transported to Belford Hospital for additional evaluation and treatment.
In August, another climber, Rob Brown, perished in an accident on the mountain’s north face.
