Before crews arrived, two adults and two children had fled the apartment and were taken to the hospital.
In an apartment fire in east London, an 11-year-old child perished.
The boy was pronounced deceased at the scene of the fire in Stern Close, Barking, according to the Metropolitan Police.
Police reported that two additional minors and two adults were taken to the hospital, but none of them were in life-threatening condition.
At around 3:25 a.m. on Tuesday, firefighters were dispatched to the fire.
According to them, the flames “destroyed” the three-room apartment on the second floor of the building.
The remaining four individuals fled the apartment before the arrival of emergency personnel and were transported to a hospital.
Paramedics treated a second man at the site.
The fire’s cause is being investigated by the fire department and the Metropolitan Police.
So far it does not appear to be suspicious, the authorities said.
