The Ashes hero has kept a quiet profile since the disaster, although he attended Friday’s England-New Zealand opening ODI.

Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff, an England cricket legend, made an uncommon public appearance nine months after sustaining severe facial injuries in a car accident.

Flintoff watched England’s first ODI against New Zealand on Friday from Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens veranda.

The 45-year-old former England captain collided while filming for the BBC show Top Gear at the Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey.

Flintoff, one of the show’s hosts, has maintained a low profile since the tragedy.

On Friday, the former all-rounder, who played in 79 Tests and 141 one-day matches for England, was photographed at Sophia Gardens wearing an England coaching uniform.

The injuries from the Top Gear accident that halted production of series 34 were visible on his visage.

Flintoff is expected to remain with the squad for the remainder of the series, as he is a close friend of England’s managing director Rob Key.

He is not expected to travel to India for the impending World Cup.

It had “concluded its investigation into the accident that injured presenter Freddie Flintoff at the Top Gear Test Track in Surrey last December.

The statement continued, “We apologise sincerely to Freddie and will continue to assist him in his recovery.” We believe that it would be imprudent to resume production of Top Gear series 34 at this time.

“This will disappoint supporters, but it’s the right thing to do. We’ll decide how to proceed later this year. This has also had an effect on the production team, which we continue to support.”

After helping England win the Ashes series against Australia in 2009, Flintoff retired from all forms of cricket in 2015.
