The body of a 10-year-old girl was discovered in Surrey, prompting the opening of a homicide investigation.

Police were dispatched to an address in Hammond Road, Woking, at approximately 02:50 BST on Thursday due to a safety concern.

Det Ch Insp. Debbie White described the incident as “devastating.”

She stated that the police had identified several individuals with whom they wished to speak and were not seeking anyone else.

According to a police spokesperson, no one else was injured and no arrests had been made.

A resident who lives directly across the street from the residence stated that a family with six children had resided there for less than six months.

“They were typical, friendly children. “They appeared to be a respectable family,” he said.

“It doesn’t seem real.”

Thursday, Detective Chief Inspector White stated, “Our officers are diligently constructing a picture of what transpired.”

We have no reason to believe that the public is at risk.

She added that there was a significant police presence near the Hammond Road address, which would remain closed for the next few days.

The family of the deceased girl has been informed and is receiving assistance from officers with specialized training.

Another neighbor who wished to remain anonymous described the neighborhood as “pretty normal” and added, “There is no real activity going on.”

Another resident added, “The area is very quiet. During the school year, many students are walking to and from school. In general, however, it is a lovely, vibrant town.”

A spokesperson for St Mary’s Horsell in Woking stated that the church would be open for “prayer, reflection, and comfort”

They stated, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire community, but especially with those who will be so profoundly affected by this tragedy.”
