At least 19 people, including two children, were killed by Russian missile strikes on residential structures near Odessa.

Before dawn on Friday, the strikes struck the small town of Serhiivka, located approximately 50 kilometers (30 miles) southwest of the Ukrainian port city.

According to a general of the Ukrainian army, Russia’s frequent use of inaccurate Soviet missiles has resulted in significant civilian casualties.

According to Odesa officials, thirty more people were injured in the attack.

According to local reports, a multistory apartment building and two vacation camps were affected.

There were sixteen fatalities in the apartment building, which housed 152 residents.

Russia’s “gesture of goodwill” called into question

After claiming it was withdrawing from Snake Island as a “gesture of goodwill” to demonstrate that it was not obstructing efforts to establish a humanitarian corridor that would allow the grain to be shipped from Ukraine, Russia has been hit with airstrikes.

Snake Island, an outcrop in the Black Sea, became a symbol of Ukrainian resistance in the early days of the war when a Ukrainian soldier was recorded telling a Russian warship to “go f*** yourself,” but it has since been occupied by forces loyal to the Kremlin.

Officials in Kiev offered a different explanation, stating that an artillery and missile assault had succeeded in driving Russian forces off the island.

The British Ministry of Defence reached a similar conclusion, stating, “Ukrainian armed forces launched missile and drone strikes against the Russian garrison in recent weeks.

Additionally, anti-ship missiles were used to intercept Russian naval vessels attempting to resupply the island.

It is highly likely that Russia withdrew from Snake Island due to the isolation of the garrison and its increasing vulnerability to Ukrainian strikes, and not as a ‘gesture of goodwill as it has claimed.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hailed the Russian withdrawal from Snake Island as a strategic victory.

In his nightly video address, he stated, “It does not yet ensure security.” It does not guarantee that the enemy will never return.

“However, this severely restricts the actions of the occupants. We will gradually drive them from our sea, our land, and our skies.”
