Russia has conducted lethal strikes across Ukraine, while Kyiv has intensified its efforts to recover the occupied southern Kherson area.
Five people were killed and 26 were injured when missiles attacked the city of Kropyvnytskyi in central Ukraine, according to officials. Three persons perished in eastern Bakhmut.
15 persons were injured at a military base near Kiev. The northern and southern parts of Ukraine were also affected.
This comes as Ukraine attempts to isolate Russian forces in the south of the country.
US-supplied long-range rockets have rendered inoperable a critical bridge into the city of Kherson, which was targeted by Ukrainian forces. This prevents Russia from sending soldiers and weapons via the Antonivsky Bridge.
The only Ukrainian regional capital seized since the beginning of the Russian invasion on February 24th, according to British defense sources, is now “essentially cut off from other controlled territories.”
The Ukrainian military, meanwhile, has warned that Russia is currently redeploying its forces from eastern Ukraine to protect the Kherson region.
Alleged photographs depict Russian troops attempting to construct a pontoon crossing near the broken bridge.
Kherson is vital to Russia because it provides a land corridor to Crimea, the peninsula in southern Ukraine that Russia annexed in 2014.
At approximately 12:20 local time on Tuesday (09:20 GMT), two Russian missiles struck a flight school in Kropyvnytskyi, the capital of the Kirovohrad region, according to Andriy Raikovych, the regional director.
At least three persons were murdered and three more were injured in the eastern Donetsk area city of Bakhmut as a result of Russian shelling, according to the regional director, Pavlo Kyrylenko. Twelve residential structures sustained damage.
Separately, 15 people were injured when six Russian Kalibr missiles struck a military post in Liutizh, some 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) north of the Ukrainian capital, according to a senior Ukrainian military officer. He did not specify whether any deaths occurred.
Officials in the central-eastern region of Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, report that one person was killed and two others were injured by Russian bombardment.
Western allies continue to condemn Moscow’s aggressiveness five months after Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated an invasion of Ukraine.
Thursday, the United States, Canada, and 36 European nations announced the formation of an expert delegation to assess the deterioration of the human rights situation in Russia since the invasion began.
Acting through the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the nations accuse Moscow of intensifying internal repression of opposition voices.
The organization raised worry in a statement over claims of torture in detention centers.
In September, the organization’s specialists will issue a report and make recommendations on how the Russian government might respond to the situation.
As a long-standing member of the OSCE, Russia has previously promised to uphold human rights and other democratic values.
