Rishabh Pant sustained multiple injuries but is in stable condition after his vehicle collided with a median, flipped over, and caught fire early on Friday morning.
The wicketkeeper-batsman was alone in the car when it crashed between Mangalaur and Nursan, close to his birthplace of Roorkee in the northern state of Uttarakhand. According to police, he “dozed off” and lost control of the vehicle.
The vehicle flipped twice, authorities said. Photos of the collision revealed substantial impact and fire damage to the automobile. “Pant was injured in the forehead, hand, and right knee.
However, he is cognizant and able to speak,” Swapn Kishor Singh, the local police superintendent, was cited as saying in The Times of India. The car he was driving was destroyed by fire. He is fortunate to have survived the serious accident.”
According to multiple reports in the Indian media, after Pant’s automobile hit the traffic barrier, the footballer was forced to bust a window to escape the burned vehicle.
India’s cricket governing body (BCCI) stated in a statement that the 25-year-old sustained cuts to his forehead, a ruptured ligament in his right knee, and injuries to his right wrist, ankle, and toe. It also stated that he had abrasion injuries on his back.
Jay Shah, the secretary of the BCCI, stated, “Rishabh’s status is stable, and he has been transferred to Max Hospital in Dehradun for MRI scans to determine the extent of his injuries and determine his next course of treatment.” The medical team of the BCCI was in contact with the treating physicians.
Shah continued, “The board will ensure that Rishabh receives the best possible medical treatment and all the support he requires to overcome this painful period.”
Local media said that the player’s journey to Roorkee was intended to be a New Year’s Eve surprise for his mother.
Ashok Kumar, the director general of police for Uttarakhand, told Reuters, “Pant told the local police that he lost control of his vehicle after dozing off for a few seconds. The cops are conducting an investigation.”
This month, Pant was a member of the India Test squad that defeated Bangladesh 2-0 in a series. Next month’s Twenty20 and One-Day International lineups against Sri Lanka do not include him.
VVS Laxman, the chairman of India’s National Cricket Academy, wished Pant a swift recovery. “I will pray for Rishabh Pant. “Thankfully, he is no longer in danger,” tweeted Laxman.
Ricky Ponting, the head coach of Pant’s Indian Premier League team, the Delhi Capitals, has also raised worry. The former Australia captain wrote, “Hope you’re well and back on your feet soon.”
