Both vehicles’ drivers were among those who perished at the site. Others were compelled to escape through windows and were burned in the process.

A bus caught fire in the eastern Pakistani province of Punjab, claiming at least 20 lives and injuring 11 others.

On Sunday morning, a vehicle traveling to the capital of Islamabad collided with a van situated on the hard shoulder of an intercity highway before catching fire.

According to police, the occupants of both vehicles were fatally injured.

The van was transporting three barrels of petrol, which caused an explosion that engulfed both the bus and the van, according to a senior police officer.

The vehicle carried more than 40 passengers.

Multiple passengers are in critical condition due to severe burns.

Others with minor burns were compelled to escape the bus through the windows.

Initially, authorities estimated that at least 18 persons had been killed. This number has been altered to 20.

In Pakistan, where traffic laws are rarely observed and many rural highways are in poor condition, fatal collisions are common.

In January, in the southern Pakistani province of Balochistan, a bus fell into a ravine and caught fire, resulting in the deaths of over forty persons.
