Monday, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned an Israeli military operation in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.
According to the health ministry, nine Palestinians were slain by Israeli army fire early on Monday, including eight in Jenin. In addition, at least 50 Palestinians were injured.
The OIC said in a statement, “This heinous crime is an extension of crimes and organized state terrorism committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people.”
The group based in Jeddah held Israel accountable for “the consequences of this heinous crime, which demands an investigation and accountability.”
The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation urged the United Nations Security Council to “take responsibility, enforce its relevant resolutions, put an end to this continuous Israeli terrorism, and also provide protection for the Palestinian people.”
According to Israeli military sources, the Jenin operation involved over a thousand soldiers.
The operation was focused on the Jenin refugee camp, according to Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari. And was “part of a series of actions that we carry out and will continue to carry out.”
Israeli raids on Palestinian towns have also raised tensions in the West Bank in recent months.
According to the health ministry, approximately 190 Palestinians have been slain by Israeli forces since the beginning of this year. During the same period, at least 25 Israelis were also slain.
