South Korea reports North Korea’s launch of “several” cruise missiles into the sea from its western coast.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) of Seoul reported that the missiles were discharged on Wednesday morning.

“At approximately 7:00 am today [22:00 GMT on Tuesday], our military detected multiple cruise missiles launched by North Korea in the direction of the Yellow Sea,” the JCS said in a statement.

“The comprehensive specifications are presently undergoing meticulous examination by intelligence authorities from South Korea and the United States.”

Pyongyang, subject to severe United Nations sanctions for its nuclear weapons program, has continued weapons tests, including an underwater attack drone evaluation and a solid-fuelled hypersonic ballistic missile.

Though UN sanctions don’t prohibit cruise missile tests, the JCS monitors North Korea for additional activities. Analysts believe cruise missiles, typically jet-propelled and flying at lower altitudes, pose threats to Japan and South Korea due to radar detection challenges.

Tensions rise on the Korean Peninsula due to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s weapons development acceleration and nuclear conflict threats.

The US, Japan, and South Korea intensify joint military drills and deterrence strategies.

The recent launches coincide with the South Korean Navy’s special warfare unit training near the North Korean border, aimed at enhancing readiness following North Korea’s recent military actions.

Kim Jong Un abandons hopes of unification with South Korea, labeling it the “primary enemy.”

Satellite imagery suggests the destruction of a Pyongyang monument symbolizing reconciliation, ordered by Kim Jong Un. The Arch of Reunification, a 30-meter structure representing a unified peninsula, is reportedly no longer visible. NK News reported that Kim described it as an “eyesore” at this month’s Supreme People’s Assembly meeting.
