No one has claimed responsibility for the attack that killed six people, including a father and his young daughter, on a popular street in central Istanbul.
The perpetrator of a horrific bombing in Istanbul has been apprehended.
Six people were killed and 81 others were injured when an explosion ripped through a busy pedestrian walkway on Istiklal Avenue in the heart of Istanbul on Sunday, according to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Forty minutes before the explosion, a woman of unknown identity was seen sitting on a bench. She got up and departed immediately after the occurrence.
According to the Turkish news agency Anadolu, Suleyman Soylu, the country’s interior minister, stated that the individual had been arrested.
Ali Yerlikaya, the governor of Istanbul, has identified the victims as Arzu Ozosoy and her daughter Yagmur Ucar, Yusuf Meydan and his daughter Ecrin Meydan, and Adem Topkara and his wife Mukaddes Elif Topkara.
When the explosion occurred, Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey, was as packed as normal on the weekend with shoppers, visitors, and families.
Moments later, captured footage shows scared individuals fleeing the site.
There has been no claim of responsibility for the incident.
Mr. Erdogan termed the explosion a “treasonous attack” and warned that anyone responsible would be punished. He stated that he did not yet know who was responsible, but that it “reeked of fear.”
He stated that police and the governor’s office were conducting investigations, which included checking surveillance footage from the area.
