Debra Karels told CBS that she and her husband were in the midst of a divorce when father was allegedly responsible for the drowning deaths of their three children.

Jason Karels, 35, of Round Lake Beach, Illinois, is accused of drowning his three young children, Bryant Karels, 5, Cassidy Karels, 3, and Gideon Karels, 2.

The note was discovered when police were dispatched to Karels’ residence, and it was mentioned during his bond hearing.

NBC said that the children were spending the weekend with their father when he allegedly drowned them in the bathtub and placed their bodies on a bed.

Their mother, Debra Karels, discovered them when she came to collect them.

In remarks reported by the media, she described her children as “three precious young creatures who did not deserve this.”

“I wish I had been there that day for them.

“I wish I had been there to grab them before everything transpired.

“The children are the most essential thing to me, and he took it away from me.

“He knew that, as well as the fact that nothing else mattered to me but my children,”

Mrs. Karels told CBS that at the time, she and her husband were going through a divorce.

According to Round Lake Beach Authorities Chief Gilbert Rivera, Karels was apprehended Monday after crashing his automobile while being pursued by police.

He told officers that he was responsible for his children’s deaths and that he had attempted suicide before escaping his home.

His blood was later discovered in the residence.

Karels was ordered to be detained on a $10 million bond, but the state attorney’s office will attempt to have him held without the option of a cash bond on July 13.
