An ice tunnel collapsed during a tour group visit to a glacier in Iceland, killing one tourist and leaving two others missing, according to authorities.
A group of 25 tourists was on a guided tour of the Breioamerkurjokull glacier in the country’s south when an ice wall fell inside the cave.
Emergency personnel say they cannot confirm the travelers’ nationality.
A sophisticated operation involving over 200 workers is underway to rescue the two visitors who are believed to be stuck beneath the ice.

According to police in southern Iceland, the catastrophe occurred while 25 foreign visitors from various nations were investigating the ice cave.
“Many rescuers and responders have participated in the operation.”
“The search conditions are complex, and it is currently dark. The decision to continue the search at night is not regarded as justified, given the danger of the scene. The search has been postponed and will begin in the morning.
The traveler was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.
Another badly injured person was helicoptered to the hospital. Their condition is reported to be stable.
The police are investigating the accident.
