France, home to sizable Jewish and Muslim populations, has been placed on high alert for potential security threats following last weekend’s Hamas assault on Israel, including the attack in the town of Arras.
According to a police source, the unidentified 20-year-old assailant hails from the predominantly Muslim southern Caucasus region of Chechnya in Russia and was already listed as a “Fiche S” national on the French national registry, where he posed a potential security risk.
The source added that among those injured was a school security officer who sustained multiple stab wounds and is currently in critical condition, as well as a teacher in a less severe condition.

Nearly three years earlier, a Chechen beheaded Paris neighbourhood teacher Samuel Paty outside his school on October 16, 2020.
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin tweeted that the Friday violence suspect was arrested.
According to a third police source, his 17-year-old sibling was apprehended near another school for the attack.
The situation, according to local authorities, has been contained and no longer poses a threat to the public. Both the teachers and students were confined to the physical boundaries of the school.
Journalists claimed that police, firefighters, and emergency services were called to the school’s large security perimeter.
