A Jersey woman celebrating her 73rd birthday is an “inspiration” to those with Down syndrome, according to a charity.
The charity Les Amis reported that Libby’s condition had a 15-year life expectancy in 1950.
Libby has been cared for by the charity for adults with cognitive disabilities for 32 years.
Managing director Shaun Findlay remarked, “I am truly honored to know such a remarkable individual.”
He added, “It’s a tremendous accomplishment to be alive and active at the age of 73, keeping us all on our toes.
The percentages are stacked against people with learning disabilities, but that does not mean they cannot live a long and fulfilling life with the proper support.
This demonstrates, according to the charity, that individuals with Down’s Syndrome can live “long and fulfilling lives with the proper care and support.”
After her fifties dementia diagnosis, Libby’s family credits the foundation for her lifespan.
Julie Stevens, Libby’s niece, stated, “Everything Les Amis do has made her life extremely pleasurable.
I believe that is why she has lived a long and happy existence.
