Mr Zelenskyy was taken near Severodonetsk, which is currently one of the principal battlegrounds in the Ukraine war. Britain is delivering a new rocket system, the M270, to assist offset the strength of Russia’s artillery in the Donbas.
In defiance of Vladimir Putin’s ultimatum, the UK will send a “cutting edge” rocket system to Ukraine to assist forces in fighting back Russia’s assault in the beleaguered east of the country.
According to the Ministry of Defence, it can attack targets up to 50 miles (80 kilometres) distant with “pinpoint accuracy” (MoD).
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made the pledge while visiting the cities of Lysychansk and Soledar, following a visit to the southern Zaporizhzhia region.
The eastern provinces of Luhansk and Donetsk make up the Donbas, which is now Russia’s focal point of the conflict and the scene of fierce combat.
“I am proud of everyone I met, everyone I shook hands with, everyone with whom I bonded and had shown my support,” Mr Zelenskyy said as he uploaded videos from the trip.
He visited a medical centre in Zaporizhzhia and met with people who had been forced to flee their homes as a result of the war, including residents of Mariupol, which is now under Russian control following a severe siege.
Ukraine will send troops to the United Kingdom.
The Ministry of Defense said its newest step was in response to requests for longer-range precision missiles to assault Russian heavy artillery, and that it was coordinated with America’s recent decision to provide a variant of the same system.
Ukrainian forces will visit the United Kingdom to learn how to operate the weapon, which is operated by a three-person crew and is mounted on a tracked armoured launcher.
So far, the United Kingdom has supplied £750 million worth of military equipment, including over 5,000 anti-tank missiles and 120 armoured vehicles.
‘Insidious new attacks’
Meanwhile, Kyiv’s five-week respite was disrupted early on Sunday when rockets struck two areas on the outskirts, Darnytski and Dniprovski.
Moscow claimed responsibility for the destruction of tanks supplied by Western partners, while Ukraine claimed the attack targeted a rail carriage maintenance facility. There were no early reports of deaths, although one person was transported to the hospital.
A similar incident had not occurred in the capital since the end of April.
“The Kremlin has resorted to new deception tactics. The missile attacks on Kyiv today have only one goal: to murder as many people as possible “Mykhailo Podolyak, a presidential adviser, wrote.
Cities and villages in the Luhansk region, which is at the centre of the Russian offensive, were once again targeted by missile and air strikes.
Serhiy Haidai, the regional governor, said helicopters hit Girske and Myrna Dolyna, while a Su-25 fighter bombed Ustynivka.
Other attacks were reported in Lysychansk, where Mr Zelenskyy was visiting, and Kramatorsk, in northern Donetsk’s eastern region.
Ukraine’s military, on the other hand, said it had repelled seven strikes across the Donbas, downing a helicopter and destroying four tanks.
According to Mr Haidai, a counterattack in Severodonetsk regained a stretch of terrain and gave Ukraine control of half of the city.
In recent weeks, the city has become a vital battleground in Moscow’s attempt to take the Donbas.
On Sunday, the Ministry of Defense stated that counterattacks had likely hampered Russia’s “operational momentum.”
Another top commander is said to have been assassinated.
Major General Roman Kutuzov died in eastern Ukraine, according to Russian state journalist Alexander Sladkov, who added his name to a list of Kremlin military officers who have reportedly died in the conflict.
