A man in his late 80s died in a Cork hospital following an alleged assault by another patient.
A man in his thirties was seized by Irish police at the site and transported to Bridewell Garda Station in the city.
Officers are not searching for any further suspects in connection with the man’s death.
The event occurred at Mercy University Hospital early on Sunday morning.
The police were notified just before 5:30 a.m.
It is believed that the affected patients were being treated in the same ward.
The incident-affected section of the hospital has been shut off for forensic and technical inspection.
At Bridewell Garda Station, an incident room has been constructed, and a state pathologist will investigate the situation.
The family of the deceased man is receiving assistance.
