Rescue personnel are searching for survivors, and India’s prime minister, Narendra Modi, lamented the “tragic accident.”

As a result of the collapse of a crane during the construction of a bridge in India, at least 16 construction workers were killed, and several others are presumed trapped.

Rescue workers pulled out bodies and searched for survivors at the site in Shahapur, approximately 50 miles (80 kilometers) from Mumbai in the western state of Maharashtra, as captured on film.

Several injured parties have been transported to hospitals.

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences on X, formerly known as Twitter, a social media platform.

His office posted: “Deeply saddened by the tragic incident in Shahapur, Maharashtra.

“My deepest condolences go out to the families of those who lost their lives.”

His government announced that the families of the deceased will receive 200,000 rupees (£1,894) and the injured will receive 50,000 rupees (£474) in aid.
