The Chinese-Canadian music artist Kris Wu was sentenced to 13 years in prison for sex offenses.

The 32-year-old singer and actor were convicted by a court in Beijing of raping three women and organizing a throng for an orgy.

He was detained last year when a student accused him of date rape before 24 additional victims came forward.

The court ruled that he would be deported, although deportations in China typically occur after sentences have been completed.

Beijing’s Chaoyang district court announced on Friday that Wu would be sentenced to 11 years and six months in prison for raping three women at his house in 2020 “when they were intoxicated and unaware or unable to resist”.

The court also sentenced him to one year and ten months for “gathering persons to commit adultery.”

The first person to accuse him was a student named Du Meizhu, whom last year stated on social media that she met Mr. Wu when she was 17 years old.

She claimed she was invited to a party at his residence, where she was persuaded to consume wine and awoke in his bed the following morning.

Mr. Wu rejected the allegations, but at least 24 additional victims have accused him of predatory conduct. He was accused of inviting ladies to karaoke events fueled by booze.

The musician also faces a fine of 600 million yuan for tax cheating. State news agency Xinhua reported that he lied about his worldwide revenue through a phony company.

Mr. Wu, who was born in China but holds Canadian citizenship, rose to prominence in the 2010s as a member of the K-pop boyband EXO.

After forging a solo career as a singer, actor, model, and variety show judge, he became one of China’s most prominent superstars.

However, brands such as Louis Vuitton, Bulgari, L’Oreal Men, and Porsche have suspended their partnerships with Mr. Wu as a result of the lawsuit.
