Cathay Pacific’s (0293. HK) flight CX880 was forced to abort departure at Hong Kong’s international airport early on Saturday morning due to a technical issue, the company said in a statement.

The Hong Kong to Los Angeles flight carried 17 crew members and 293 passengers. It “aborted takeoff by standard procedures after the crew detected a technical problem.”

Cathay stated that the injuries occurred during a precautionary evacuation back at the gate when passengers used five door-escape slides to evacuate the aircraft.

Cathay expressed sincere regret for the inconvenience caused to consumers.

Public broadcaster RTHK reported, citing police, that one of the plane’s tires exploded due to overheating.
